DIESEL is used for powering the vast majority of diesel engined on-road and off-road vehicles. It is used in cars, lorries, HGVs (Heavy Goods Vehicles), LCVs (Light Commercial Vehicles), vans, buses and coaches.
It is now also used in the construction industry for construction vehicles and machinery, including generators, cranes and site vehicles.
Since the government announced in the Budget 2020 that the entitlement to use rebated red diesel or rebated biofuels (e.g. Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil – HVO) would be removed from most sectors, including construction, from 1 April 2022.
This means it is illegal to put red diesel into the tank of a vehicle or machine that will be used for construction work.
This fuel is known under various names, including: DERV (Diesel Engine Road Vehicle), DIESEL, WHITE DIESEL and ULSD (Ultra Low Sulphur Diesel).
WHITE DIESEL is not actually white in colour, as the name suggests, but more of a clear/bright amber colour.
